Insuring your smallholding

Smallholdings insurance.

Protecting your smallholding with smallholdings insurance is essential to protect you, your buildings, your equipment, your livestock, and more. As a smallholder you really can’t afford to do without it.

IS YOUR LIVESTOCK COVERED?

IS YOUR LIVESTOCK COVERED?

The current economic climate makes us all think hard about our expenditure and unfortunately some of us tend to put things like insurance on the back burner as “nothing’s ever happened before,  it’s money down the drain”.  But it’s not. Ask yourself “What if … ?”What if something did go wrong and you didn’t have some form of smallholders insurance in place? Can you really afford to be without smallholings insurance?

It’s easier these days to find an insurance company that provides smallholdings insurance, with an understanding that each smallholder’s needs are individual to them and they will help to organise smallholdings insurance that is tailored to your own smallholding enterprise.

Insuring your livestock is a readily customisable policy, depending on the risks you want to cover, and the risks that you don’t, with various add-on risks being available. For example:

  • Death
  • Accidental injury
  • Fire
  • Lightning
  • … and so on

As you have a smallholding, then your ‘property’ is likely to be more than just your dwelling. Perhaps you have barns and stables. With a tailored smallholding insurance policy you should specify clearly the property that you wish to be covered by the smallholding insurance. Don’t assume that property insurance means your home and outbuildings are automatically covered. Satisfy yourself that you are being provided with the smallholdings insurance that you need for your own particular situation.

Personal accident cover is also something to consider.
